In
my INQ class for over these past weeks we have been reading a book called “The
Creative Habit” by Twyla Tharp. Overall I really like this book; I feel it is
very enjoyable to read with the different structure she uses. Her structure is
not common like other books I have read.
As you read her book you noticed she has sentences and words with
different fonts and size, its not all the same it goes from big to little. In
most you read just straight paragraphs not in hers. Her book is a personal
narrative it helps inform others it is very artisty and free formed. Tharp also
talks about creativity. That anyone can be creative. She states that being
creative is just as simple as a parent tries to come up with ways to show the
world Tharp believes that all it takes
is to make creativity apart of your everyday life is to make it a habit. She spoke on how
rituals are the beginning of the creative progress. Using an example on how her
friend Auster met a famous baseball player but didn’t get to have their
autograph because they forgot a pen. Now ever since doesn’t leave their house
with out any kind of writing utensil. She also states how rituals are a
reminder that you are doing something right. I never noticed the rituals I do
everyday was something the reminded me I was doing something right till now. I
really never noticed if I had a ritual but now I see Monday and Wednesday I
have a 3:25 class so I make sure I am ready to go and at 3:00 I go to Dunkin
with my friend Jasmine and walk to Davis and Tuesdays and Thursdays I wake up
early and the first thing I do it check to make sure my friend Marcia is up and
read by 7:45 to get coffee and not be late to class. In my rituals / routines I
catch that I always make sure I check on my friends.
